1. Before Using Rice Water Orchid Fertilizer

Before using any fertilizer, there is one extremely important step you must not skip. First, cut off the old flower spike so the plant does not waste energy. Helps the plant focus nutrients on growing new roots and leaves, recover quickly, and bloom again soon.

At the same time, removing the old flower spike prevents the plant from wasting energy on parts that have already faded. Yellow leaves also need to be removed to avoid the risk of disease. Create a more ventilated environment for the plant to recover.

2. Prepare the Rice Water Orchid Fertilizer

After the plant has been completely cleaned, we can start preparing the solution. Prepare 1/2 L of boiling water. Add 3 Tbsp of rice, stir well, then let it sit until it cools.

When the solution is completely cooled, filter out the residue. Then add 1 L of clean water to dilute the solution, stirring well so the nutrients are evenly distributed. The solution is ready for use.

Step 1 Wipe the leaves

Next, use a soft piece of cotton or a clean cloth soaked in the solution to gently wipe both sides of the leaves. Wipe gently and evenly so the nutrients absorb well without damaging the leaves. Be gentle on the underside of the leaves and avoid water build up in the leaf axils to prevent rot.

This not only helps the leaves stay clean, shiny, and naturally healthy, but also enhances photosynthesis. It helps the leaves absorb nutrients more effectively. Work carefully so the leaf surface stays intact.

Step 2 Spray the leaves

Evenly spray the solution over all the leaves. Use a spray bottle to evenly mist both sides of the leaves, especially the underside to increase absorption. Rice water contains B vitamins and natural minerals, helping nourish the leaves and support faster recovery.

It makes the leaves greener, thicker, and stronger, while also enhancing photosynthesis. It should be done in the early morning or late afternoon, so the plant can absorb it in the best and most effective way. Keep the mist fine and even.

Step 3 Water the medium

Water the solution onto the growing medium. Slowly pour the solution over the entire growing medium so it evenly soaks down to the root zone. Ensure the solution comes into direct contact with the roots, helping the plant absorb nutrients more effectively.

After watering, let the pot drain completely to avoid water accumulation at the bottom that can cause root rot. Good drainage protects tender new roots. Keep the pot breathing well.

Step 4 Remove excess

Wipe off any remaining excess solution. After completing the steps, use a soft cloth to gently wipe off any remaining solution on the leaves. This helps prevent prolonged moisture build up which can easily cause fungal diseases and leaf rot.

At the same time, it keeps the leaf surface airy and clean, helping the plant breathe and photosynthesize better. I use the leftover solution to water other orchids in the garden. Water evenly over the growing medium to stimulate root growth and strengthen the plant.

However, only water a moderate amount avoiding making the growing medium too wet because orchid roots need air to breathe. Keep moisture balanced for fast recovery. Watch the medium and let it dry slightly between waterings.

After 45 days, the orchid has clearly recovered. The leaves have become darker green, thicker, and firmer. A sign that the plant is absorbing nutrients well.

The root system has developed strongly with many new roots appearing. The root tips are fresh green, plump, and elongating. This is clear evidence that the plant has fully adapted.
