Have you ever thought that a spoon of discarded wood ash could revive an entire pot of orchids? Look at these lush green new roots and these plump young shoots. This is the result after exactly 1 month of applying my special formula made from wood ash and milk.
I will share an extremely simple three step process to make your flowers more vibrant and longer lasting than ever before. The first ingredient I choose is milk. With just about 1 Tbsp of milk, we already have a rich source of amino acids to nourish leaf cells.

This prepares them for the deep cleaning step right after this. You only need to do this leaf wiping one to two times per month to keep the plant always vigorous.
1. Wood Ash for Orchids leaf prep with milk

Step one, I use a soft cloth soaked evenly in this diluted milk solution to thoroughly wipe each side of the leaves. Cleaning both the upper and lower surfaces helps remove dirt, unclog the stomata so the leaves can breathe better, and enhance photosynthesis. Once the leaves become glossy green and clean, we move on to the second important step.

2. Wood Ash for Orchids root awakening

Step two, with just one spoon of wood ash mixed with 1 L of water, we have a valuable natural source of potassium and calcium. I stir well, cover it, and wait about 30 minutes for the minerals in the wood ash to dissolve into the water. I also have a ginger based root stimulation technique that is very effective for weak orchids.
After filtering out all the residue to obtain the clear liquid, I mix the previously diluted milk solution with the ash water. This mixture is not only rich in nutrients, but also has a mild alkaline property that helps protect the root system. It is rich in potassium and calcium and also contains essential amino acids from milk.
When applied to the growing medium, it helps neutralize acidity, eliminate harmful fungi, and stimulate dormant root tips to awaken and extend to absorb nutrients. This mixture contains high levels of natural phosphorus and potassium, helping the flowers bloom vibrantly with richer color and significantly longer lasting blooms. You only need to do this watering two times per month to maintain the plant’s vigorous vitality.

3. Wood Ash for Orchids full plant spray

Step three, I put the mixture into a spray bottle and mist it evenly over the entire stem and leaves. This direct spraying provides four outstanding benefits. First, it cools and instantly hydrates the leaves, and second, it creates a protective layer to prevent fungi and bacteria from invading.

Third, it helps the plant absorb nutrients multi dimensionally so that new shoots sprout strongly. Finally, it stimulates flower buds to develop strongly and with richer color. To achieve optimal results for all types of orchids in your garden, perform this full plant spraying step once a week.
