I continue to share with you a new method of rose cuttings that is simple, fast and highly effective.
First, to create a natural source of nutrients with antibacterial properties and provide vitamins for the flower branches, we need to prepare a fresh orange.
1. Rose Cutting Propagation: Orange Peel Nutrient Base
After being washed, the orange will be peeled – this is where many natural essential oils such as limonene are concentrated which have very good antifungal and antioxidant properties.
After peeling, cut the orange peel into small pieces to increase the contact area when soaking and extracting. Put all the cut peels into a clean glass jar and pour in 500ml of boiling water.
When the boiling water comes into contact with the orange peel, the essential oils and vitamins will partially dissolve into the solution, creating a mixture with a mild aroma and natural antibacterial properties. Stir well, cover and let the solution cool completely at room temperature.
2. Rose Cutting Propagation: Prepare the Branches
While waiting for the orange peel solution to cool, we prepare the rose branches that need to be propagated. Choose a healthy branch with no signs of pests or damage.
Cut off all the leaves and sharp thorns on the stem – this helps reduce water loss and limits the penetration of fungi at the injured points. Then cut the branch to about 15-20cm in length – this is the optimal length to retain moisture well and create favorable conditions for new roots to develop.
3. Rose Cutting Propagation: Honey Infusion and Stem Prep
When the orange peel solution has cooled completely, stir it again and use a sieve to filter the liquid. Pour the orange peel solution into a cup and add 1 tablespoon of honey.
Honey contains many enzymes and antibacterial compounds such as natural hydrogen peroxide which helps protect the stem tissue from fungi and stimulates the healing process. Stir until the honey is completely dissolved, creating a solution with a light viscosity and a very pleasant natural scent.
Use a soft cloth soaked in the orange peel – honey solution and gently wipe the entire stem of the rose. Wiping the stem helps to disinfect directly on the stem surface, especially at the cut positions – where fungi are most easily attacked in the early stages. After wiping, place the rose stem in the cup of solution and soak for about 30 minutes so that the stem tissue can deeply absorb nutrients.

4. Rose Cutting Propagation: Rice Water Booster
During this time, prepare a rice water solution – a source of nutrients rich in vitamin B, amino acids and starch which helps stimulate the development of young roots.
Take 100g of rice and put it in a clean plastic cup, pour in 500ml of clean water, then rub and wash the rice thoroughly with your hands so that the nutrients in the rice bran dissolve into the water.
5. Rose Cutting Propagation: Combine for Root Stimulant
After soaking the flower branches for enough time, take the branches out of the orange peel – honey solution. At this time, decant the clear rice water and pour it into the cup containing the orange peel – honey solution.
The combination of orange essential oil, honey and nutrients from rice creates a natural root stimulant solution, highly effective but very safe, helping the root tissue to recover quickly and easily form young roots.
6. Rose Cutting Propagation: Potting Medium and Planting
Next, prepare a clean plastic cup and fill the cup with treated coconut fiber. Coconut fiber is a type of substrate that has good moisture retention, is airy and helps young roots grow quickly without drowning.
Press the coconut fiber firmly in the cup to create a stable surface, then slowly pour in the orange peel – honey – rice solution in just enough quantity, avoiding overflow. Use your finger to make a small hole in the middle of the cup of coconut fiber, place the flower branch in the middle and press lightly around to fix the stem.
Fixing firmly will help the branch stand upright, not shaking when the young roots begin to form.
7. Rose Cutting Propagation: Humidity Dome and Placement
To maintain stable humidity, use a plastic bag or a transparent plastic cup to cover the mouth of the cup. This method creates a miniature greenhouse environment, retaining the ideal humidity to help the flower branch not lose water in the important first days.
Place the cup in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and strong winds to maintain a stable temperature.

8. Rose Cutting Propagation: Results and Transplanting
After about 10 days, you will observe quite obvious results. The upper part of the stem has sprouted new shoots and fresh green leaves, proving that the branch has adapted well and begun to grow steadily.
The base of the flower branch begins to grow many new white, shiny and succulent roots – a sign of healthy growth. When the roots have grown long enough, you can transfer the branch to a new pot.
At this time, choose a pot with good drainage and use river sand as a substrate. River sand helps the young roots not to be waterlogged, increases ventilation and creates conditions for the roots to penetrate quickly.
