Stop planting orchids in soil. That is a mistake that causes the roots to suffocate and easily rot.
I grow orchids entirely in water and the roots grow twice as strong. But if you do this step wrong, the plant’s roots will rot very quickly. I will guide you on how to grow orchids hydroponically the right way from start to finish.

1. Hydroponic Orchid Care basics

This orchid was planted in overly moist moss, causing the roots to suffocate and gradually weaken. When it was discarded, I picked it up and began reviving it to help it bloom again.
Therefore, the first thing to do is remove all the old growing medium so the roots can be ventilated and begin the recovery process.

2. Treating roots in Hydroponic Orchid Care

Remove old medium

You can see that the old growing medium retains too much moisture, causing the roots to constantly be suffocated and unable to grow healthily. Remove every bit of it to open the root zone and start recovery.
Trim damaged roots

Next, remove all the damaged roots to prevent the spread and help the plant focus on nourishing the remaining healthy parts. Work carefully and keep only firm, green or white roots.
Rinse and dry
After that, rinse all the roots under water to remove any remaining dirt and bacteria, helping the plant get ready for the next step. Next, let the plant dry completely, allowing the root surfaces to dry and reducing the risk of rot when entering the new planting stage.

3. Natural nutrients for Hydroponic Orchid Care

Brew coffee solution

I use coffee powder as a natural nutrient source to revive the plant. Just 1 tsp is enough to start. Mix it with 1 L of boiling water and let it steep until it cools completely, allowing the nutrients to dissolve before use.
After the solution has completely cooled, filter out the residue to obtain clear water, helping the plant absorb nutrients better.
Dilute and add B1

Next, add about a half liter of water to dilute the solution, helping the plant absorb it more gently and safely. After that, add three vitamin B1 tablets, each 2.5 mg, to enhance recovery and stimulate stronger root growth.
Soak roots and clean leaves

After mixing, place the orchid into a container and pour in the diluted coffee and B1 solution, soaking the roots for about 15 to 20 minutes so the plant can absorb the nutrients better. While waiting during the soaking process, use a soft cloth soaked in this solution and gently wipe both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves. The diluted coffee and B1 solution helps remove dust and the barrier layer on the leaf surface, thereby increasing photosynthesis and helping the plant absorb light more effectively.

4. Move to a semi hydroponic pot in Hydroponic Orchid Care

After about 20 minutes of soaking, gently take the orchid out and let it drain, preparing to move it to a hydroponic pot. You can also create a simple support using a rust resistant plastic coated metal rod to help secure the plant firmly when growing it in a semi hydroponic pot, just like I am doing.
When adding water to the semi hydroponic container, just let the water level lightly touch the roots, enough to provide moisture without causing waterlogging.

5. Recovery results in Hydroponic Orchid Care

Here is the result after 3 weeks of recovery. By combining natural nutrients with the semi hydroponic growing method, the plant has clearly begun to revive. You can see many new roots have started to develop, and this is a clear sign that the plant is recovering very well.

Not only are many new roots growing, you can also see a new leaf emerging at the top, signaling that the plant is growing strongly again. These are the orchids I have revived before using the semi hydroponic method combined with natural nutrients showing clear effectiveness over time.

With a healthy root system, the orchid can absorb nutrients steadily, thereby maintaining vibrant and long lasting blooms for many months.
Final thoughts on Hydroponic Orchid Care
Treat the roots properly, feed gently with a natural solution, and keep the water level just touching the roots. This simple routine helps weak orchids revive and push new roots and leaves quickly. Wishing you success in reviving your orchid soon.
