There are times when I sit and look at my small garden and wonder: Is there any miracle that can make a dry rose branch revive, grow roots, and sprout strongly? After many experiments, failures, and discouragements, I found the answer not from expensive root stimulants, nor from any high-tech. Here is the simple way I use to awaken life in a rose cutting.
1. Rose Cutting Propagation – Choosing the Branch

Choose a rose branch that you love the most as long as it is not infected with pests, has a moderately strong stem, not too young or too old. Look at that rose branch and imagine that it is only temporarily asleep and your task is to wake it up. Cut off all the leaves and sharp thorns, because they only cause the branch to lose water in the recovery process.
Trim the branch to about 15-20 cm, neatly like an arrow ready to shoot to find new life.

2. Rose Cutting Propagation – First Revival Potion

Prepare the first revival potion. You need 5-6 small cloves of garlic, minced or chopped and put in a clean plastic cup. Pour in 500 ml of water, stir well to dissolve the garlic, and gently drop the rose branches in to soak for 15 minutes.
During that time, the active ingredient allicin in garlic will penetrate each wood fiber, helping to disinfect, anti-fungal and at the same time stimulate scar tissue to transform into root tissue.
Increase the life energy of the solution

After the branches have been soaked enough, we start to increase the life energy of the solution. Take a ripe banana, wash it, peel it and cut the peel into small pieces and put it back in the cup containing the garlic solution. Banana peels contain a lot of potassium – an important mineral that helps plants grow strong roots and sprout quickly.
To make the mixture more perfect, add 3 tablespoons of white rice, a source of carbohydrates that provides slow energy, helping to nourish the root tissue in the early days when it is still weak. Stir well and let it sit for another 15 minutes so that all the nutrients blend together into a mixture that is both antibacterial – stimulates roots – and nourishes.
Filter and dilute

When the time is up, lift the flower branch, then stir the mixture one last time and filter out the garlic, banana peel, and rice residue, keeping only the clear solution. Dilute with clean water to make 1 liter of liquid fertilizer solution, with a light scent of fermented fruit.
3. Rose Cutting Propagation – Create the Nest

It is time to create a “nest” for the rose branch. Take a clean cup, put the processed coconut fiber in about half a cup, press it lightly and use your hand to make a small hole in the middle. Gently place the base of the branch in, then cover it with coconut fiber until it is full of the cup, and press it firmly to keep the plant standing.
Finally, pour in the banana peel – rice – garlic solution to moisten it enough. At this point, the flower branch is ready to start a new and promising journey.

4. Rose Cutting Propagation – Mini Greenhouse Care

To keep the environment stable, cover the cup with a plastic bag or use a transparent plastic cup to cover it, turning it into a mini greenhouse, helping to retain moisture while still being airy. Place the pot in a cool place, away from harsh sunlight and strong winds, and let nature do the rest.
5. Rose Cutting Propagation – Signs of Success

The wonderful moment will come. After only 7 days, you will see new shoots begin to sprout, green and full of vitality, signaling that the rose branch has truly awakened. When you gently check the base, you will be amazed to see the white, plump, bristly roots like small fingers reaching out to find life.
That’s when you can smile with satisfaction and transfer the plant to a larger pot, plant it in a well-drained river sand substrate, and care for it as a new life. It is no longer a lifeless cutting, but a real rose, carrying the pride that you are the one who revived it with your hands and patience.

Final Thoughts
If you ask me what makes me love rose propagation so much, I will answer: There is nothing happier than witnessing a seemingly discarded branch suddenly spring up strongly thanks to just a little sincere love – from garlic, from banana peels or from the gardener’s heart. I wish you success with beautiful rose pots!
