1. Soilless Orchid Culture Basics

First, I remove all the old substrate. Cut off all dry roots, rotten roots, and the spent flower spike. These damaged roots can no longer absorb nutrients and are also a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.

After that, rinse the plant with clean water to wash away dirt, fungi, and bacteria clinging to the roots. At the same time clean the cut surfaces to limit infection.

I mix 1 liter of water with just 1 drop of methylene blue, then fully submerge the entire plant in this solution. This is an extremely important step to disinfect, helping protect the cuts and prevent root rot after treatment.

Potato extract for Soilless Orchid Culture

I use a sprouted potato to make a nourishing solution, potatoes contain a lot of starch, vitamins, and natural enzymes that help stimulate root recovery. Cut a small piece of the sprouted potato, then put it into a blender with a little water and blend it thoroughly to break down the structure, helping to release the maximum amount of beneficial starch, vitamins, and enzymes. After that, filter out all the pulp completely to make the solution clear, avoiding root blockage.

Vitamin support for Soilless Orchid Culture

Next, add 1 liter of clean water and 3 vitamin B1 tablets. Vitamin B1 helps stimulate new root growth and recover the plant after root cutting. As a result, new roots grow faster, stronger, and the risk of shock after treatment is reduced.

I soak the orchid roots in this solution for about 15 minutes. At the same time using a soft cloth to wipe both sides of the leaves. This helps the plant absorb nutrients faster and recover more effectively.

I use clay pellets as the growing medium because they have high aeration and retain moisture well. Rinse thoroughly multiple times with water to completely remove fine dust and impurities trapped in the pores. After that, soak it in a methylene blue solution for about 10 minutes to treat it.

This step helps disinfect, eliminate bacteria and fungi, and create a safe environment for the roots when planting. Add the clay pellets, place the plant in the center, then fill around it to secure it and maintain aeration.

Only add water so it touches the root tips, not submerging them, because roots need oxygen and will rot if submerged.
