How One Spoonful of Rice Sparks Rose Branch Growth

Using natural ingredients to propagate a rose branch makes me feel more secure and excited. I have tried this method and found it very effective. In about 10 days the branch has strong roots and sprouts very well.

I choose a really healthy rose branch, free of pests and diseases. The branch is not too young or too old, because that way the rooting rate will be higher. I cut the branch short, only keeping it about 15 to 20 cm long.

I remove all the sharp thorns and leaves on the lower stem to avoid waterlogging. I leave only about 2-3 leaves on top so the plant can photosynthesize lightly without losing too much water. For the stem, I cut it at a 45-degree angle to increase contact area with the solution and soil while limiting damage to the wood tissue.

Choose a healthy rose branch with no pests or diseases. Avoid wood that is too young or too old to improve rooting rate. Keep the cutting at 15 to 20 cm.

Remove lower thorns and leaves and keep 2-3 leaves at the top. Trim the base at a 45-degree angle. This helps solution contact and reduces tissue damage.

2. Rose Cutting Propagation – Natural Rooting Solution

Aloe vera base

Peel off the green outer skin and keep only the transparent flesh. This part contains nutrients, enzymes, and mucus that help sterilize and stimulate healing of the cut tissue. Cut the aloe flesh into small pieces and add 500 ml of clean water.

Aloe vera gel contains polysaccharides, enzymes, and natural antibacterial substances. These help disinfect the cut, stimulate callus growth, and support the formation of young roots. When chopped and mixed with water and stirred well, you get a mild solution that does not shock the cuttings.

Soak the rose branch in the aloe vera mixture for about 15 minutes. This allows active ingredients to penetrate into the conductive tissue. Keep everything clean.

Tomato and rice boosters

Add about 30 grams of ripe tomatoes, washed and chopped. This releases lycopene, B vitamins, potassium, and beneficial organic acids. Tomatoes help balance pH so plant tissue absorbs easily.

When the chopped tomatoes are added to the aloe, the mixture becomes richer in nutrients. Next is rice – a component rich in starch, vitamin B1, and trace elements. Add three tablespoons of rice to provide a natural source of energy for the formation of roots and shoots.

Stir well so the ingredients blend and create an ideal biological environment. Soak the rose branches for another 15 minutes to maximize the combined effect. Keep timing consistent for all cuttings.

Filter and dilute

After soaking, take out the branches and filter the mixture. Removing the pulp makes the solution clearer and reduces the risk of fermentation or mold during use. Dilute the liquid with 0.5 liters of clean water so it is not too concentrated and does not damage young cells.

Prepare the substrate

Use a clean plastic cup with processed coconut fiber to remove tannins and fungi. Fill the coconut fiber to about half the cup and press it moderately. Make a hole in the middle to place the branch.

Set the cutting

Insert the rose branch into the hole. Add coconut fiber around it and press lightly to fix the stem without causing breakage or bark damage. Keep the stem stable.

Water with solution

Pour the diluted aloe-tomato-rice solution into the coconut fiber cup in a moderate amount. Not too much to flood the roots, not too little to reduce nutrient effectiveness. Coconut fiber holds moisture, is ventilated and light, and makes it easy for roots to penetrate.

Humidity and placement

Cover the entire cup with a plastic bag or place a transparent plastic cup on top. This creates a stable microclimate with high humidity, limits water evaporation, and reduces environmental shock. Place the cup in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and strong winds.

Fresh green shoots begin to appear on the stem nodes. This proves the branch has received nutrients and activated the growth mechanism. New roots grow white, plump, and surround the base, showing the coconut fiber environment and biological solution are working effectively.

Transplanting and early care

When the root system reaches a stable length and density, gently transfer the branch to a new pot. The replanting medium should be clean river sand with good drainage to avoid root rot in the early stages. From here, the plant can grow into a new, healthy bush and be strong enough to sprout flowers if properly cared for.

Final Thoughts

Instead of using chemical preparations or industrial root stimulants, the biological method from aloe vera, tomatoes, and rice is safe and eco-friendly. It works quickly, encourages clean rooting, and supports healthy early growth. This is especially suitable for home flower growers or anyone propagating small quantities with a focus on safety.
